This poster series was created to promote the worldwide environmental awareness campaign Earth Hour. "Since our beginnings in 2007, Earth Hour has been known for the “lights off” moment, with individuals from around the globe switching off their lights to show symbolic support for the planet and to raise awareness of the environmental issues affecting it." National landmarks, such as the Sydney Opera House, participate and draw lots of attention to the cause.
I illustrated the landmarks and printed them first with a risograph, and then screen-printed the stars (except where blocked out by the landmarks) on top with glow-in-the-dark ink. The dark versions below are actual photographs I took of the completed posters in the dark. The posters not only inform but interact with the viewer and mimic the actual event—what we would see at these iconic locations if all the lights were really off.
